The Canidae All Life Stages Line, Reviewed

10 recipes, read label by label

Canidae All Life Stages is built around one idea: every recipe, kibble or wet, is labeled for all life stages. Most recipes lead with a named meat or meat meal and pair it with grains like brown rice, barley or oats. Only the Grain Free Real Chicken & Potato Recipe kibble leaves grain out.

The kibbles run from 22.5% to 26% protein and from 38.5% to 49% estimated starch, as fed. Chicken and turkey each appear in five kibbles, lamb in three, pork in two and fish in one. The kibble average of 23.9% protein sits below the catalog kibble average of 26.9%, and the 43.6% starch average sits above the catalog's 37.4%. The three wet foods hold 8% to 9% protein, close to the 8.3% catalog wet average, and all three contain grain.

The trade-offs are clear on the labels. All seven kibbles contain peas or lentils and three include potato, so owners avoiding those have no kibble without them here. In return, the line covers a wide calorie spread, from a 342 kcal per cup recipe sold for less active dogs to a 468 kcal per cup multi-protein formula.

A GOOD FIT FOR
  • Homes feeding puppies and adults one food labeled for all life stages
  • Owners who want grain-inclusive kibble built on rice, barley or oats
  • Less active dogs, through the 342 kcal per cup recipe
WORTH KNOWING
  • All seven kibbles contain peas or lentils, and three of them also contain potato.
  • Kibble estimated starch ranges from 38.5% to 49%, so recipes in the line differ more than the shared name suggests.
  • The Lamb Meal & Rice Formula kibble is listed as discontinued.
