What happened

Oma's Pride, a brand of Miller Foods, Inc. in Avon, Connecticut, is recalling one lot of its frozen raw Woof Complete Canine Chicken Recipe. The company's announcement, posted by the FDA, says the lot is "contaminated with Salmonella."

The FDA says the recall started after the agency got a consumer complaint, then collected and tested a sample of the food, which came back positive for Salmonella. The announcement says three dogs have become ill. The company updated its release on August 17, 2026, to make clear that the illnesses happened only in dogs.

Which product is affected

The recall covers one product in one size and one lot. It is Woof Complete Canine Chicken Recipe in a 6 lb gusseted stand-up pouch. Each pouch holds 12 individually wrapped, 8 oz vacuum-sealed portions. The lot number is BB012729 and the UPC is 8 7938400145 9. The announcement lists a manufacturing date of January 27, 2026, and an expiration date of January 27, 2029.

The company says 639 bags went out between February 12 and May 15, 2026. They were sold in Arizona, California, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia, through stores and wholesale accounts, and also shipped frozen to customers who ordered online. The company says, "No other Oma's Pride products, sizes, or lots are affected."

What it means if you feed this brand

If you have the recalled lot, the company's instruction is clear: "Consumers who purchased the affected lot should stop feeding the product immediately, safely dispose of the product, and contact Oma's Pride for a refund." Because the bags were made in January and carry a 2029 expiration date, some may still be in home freezers even though shipping ended in May.

The FDA notice lists these signs of Salmonella in pets: lethargy, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, vomiting, less appetite and belly pain. Some infected pets show no signs but can still spread the bacteria. If your dog ate this food and seems unwell, call your veterinarian.

People can get sick from handling contaminated raw food too. The notice says, "Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever." Wash your hands, bowls, scoops and any surfaces the food touched.

What to check on the bag

Look for three things: the name Woof Complete Canine Chicken Recipe, the 6 lb size, and lot BB012729. The UPC 8 7938400145 9 and the January 27, 2029 expiration date can help confirm a match. The announcement does not say exactly where on the pouch the lot code is printed, so check the whole bag. If you have already thrown away the outer pouch and kept only the 8 oz portions, it is unclear whether you can tell which lot they came from. The company is the best place to ask.
